John Reischman and The Jaybirds tour the UK in May 2019

Grammy winner John Reischman is a mandolinist and composer of the highest calibre, well known to many British bluegrass fans. Hugely influential among acoustic musicians on both sides of the Atlantic, Reischman has long garnered praise for his tasteful and versatile technique. After cutting his teeth with legendary West Coast bands The Tony Rice Unit and The Good Ol’ Persons, in recent years Reischman has cemented his reputation as a sought after guest instrumentalist and bandleader. He has taught mandolin several times at the Sore Fingers bluegrass camp in the Cotswolds, and frequently collaborates and performs with well respected roots musicians including Eli West, Greg Blake, Molly Tuttle and many more.

With members based across the Pacific Northwest in both Canada and the USA, The Jaybirds have been performing and recording together for almost twenty years (with a couple of changes of line-up over that time), and have numerous tours and five critically acclaimed albums to their name. This is a rare visit to the UK for this well-respected bluegrass band. From British Columbia, Canada, Nick Hornbuckle is an accomplished banjoist and composer and honey-voiced Trisha Gagnon (vocals/double bass) anchors some impressive three-part vocal harmonies. Talented LA-based guitarist Patrick Sauber has performed with luminaries including Doc Watson and Tim O’Brien. Acclaimed guest fiddle player Annie Staninec sits in for regular fiddler Gregory Spatz. As well as her regular work with the Jaybirds, Staninec is a member of the Kathy Kallick Band and has performed with artists from Mary Gauthier to David Grisman. John Reischman and the Jaybirds perform an elegant take on bluegrass that goes down well with fans of both traditional and modern bluegrass and old time music. The 11-date tour will include festival performances at Filey Folk Festival, Edinburgh’s TradFest and Orwell Bluegrass Festival near Ipswich.
