Sore Fingers Week 2012!

Well I guess its seven days to go. I have just checked the 400 odd mugs to see if there are any residues from last October and am beginning the process of collecting all the stuff ready to load in the van!

Our good friend John Lowell has made it by the skin of his teeth since we had to cancel the Song Writing class earlier in the year. That’s a bit of a lie really as both his and Grant Gordy’s classes have booked up very well! It’s John’s fifth Sore Fingers and he holds the record for US tutors. And that means a suitable prize, any daft ideas? Send them through but not on the forum, we need to surprise him…

A reminder from Moira to carefully read your joining instructions and make sure you bring them with you. Most of the FAQ’s are answered on theses instructions and this applies equally to folk who have been before.

Please do not attempt to register before 3 pm as we are busy with staff registrations before then and the reception desk will not be ready for you.

Our attempted cull of Banjo players has not worked and we have a total of five separate Banjo classes this year with 3 main Bluegrass classes, one Old Time and the beginners! Bring your ear plugs! But we also believe it’s a great tribute to the recently departed Earl Scruggs without whom the instrument might have not become the icon it is today. Ideas for a celebration of that man’s life during S.F.Week would be welcome too.

In our constant effort for “continuing improvement” at Sore Fingers Summer Schools, we have been reviewing the morning assembly note to ensure they are increasingly boring ensuring therefore that even the most un-attentive will enjoy having the boost sore fingers by the first tea break after suffering the ordeal of Morning Assembly. Don’t worry, only five to go for 2012.

For those travelling in by public transport, we shall provide a shuttle bus from Kingham station and we meet every train (in both directions) between 14:30 and 18:30. If you are arriving later, please us the telephone number provided on your joining instructions to cal on arrival and we’ll send someone to pick you up.

The same station shuttle will be provided on Sat 14th for returns to the station.

All that remains is to wish you all a safe and uneventful journey down to Kingham and we strongly advise you to get some rest before next week a you will be burning the candle at both ends. It’s also advisable to do a bit of playing on a daily basis just to harden up those fingers, you wouldn’t want to get Sore Fingers would you?

Best wishes

John, Moira and the team
