Visiting Banjo player from US looking for people to Jam with

Postby Larry Marschall » Mon Sep 22, 2008 2:22 pm

My name is Larry Marschall, and I'm visiting Lancaster from October 1 through December 16 (I'm a professor with a group of US college students)....and a long-time bluegrass banjo player (since 1963). I play straight ahead traditional as well as chromatic styles. I'd love to find people to pick bluegrass with in the northwest (preferably)---I'll have a car in Lancaster, so I'm fairly mobile, and I've borrowed a lovely banjo. If there are any opportunities, please let me know. I probably won't read this forum too often, but you can email me at marschal@gettysburg.edu . Cheers, Larry Marschall

Hi Larry

Welcome to UKBG. Fascinating website you have there! :D

Maybe someone with better info will be along to help you out, but I'm not sure if there are any regular jams up there round Lancaster. I know that there are regular jams going in Yorkshire at Hebden Bridge, Thornton and also Leeds, which would probably be about an hour and a quarter/hour and a half from your base in Lancaster. :car: See linky to thread below:

There's also the mini festival coming up near Runcorn, near the start of your visit (details on thread link below). That should take you maybe an hour and a half down the motorway. Saturday looks good. Tony Ellis is playing and there's lots more stuff going on. Not sure how much jamming will actually be happening there but a good opportunity to meet people and make contacts.

Good luck!
