Starting Monday November 3, and each Monday until Xmas, there will be an acoustic jam session at THE FORESTERS, 53 Perry Vale, Forest Hill, London SE23 2NE. Hosts are experienced players who welcome all-comers with the widest range of abilities and confidence. Brilliant, a new session 2 mins from my house! Can't make the first 2 Mondays due to recording commitments but will be there after that. Let's support this and make sure it's a success

Good luck!

South London Session

Postby Trevor Hyett » Sun Nov 09, 2008 12:33 pm

THE WEEK STARTS HERE...at our second weekly session for pickers and singers.

Our first, last week, was a success with good picking, singing, harmonies
and rhythm. The songs and tunes varied from standard bluegrass fare, to folk song, The Beatles and Buddy Holly.

We¹ll be gathering again tomorrow, Monday the 10th, at around 8.30 and hope to see any of you who fancy a song, a tune or a relaxed and tuneful night out. The venue is:

THE FORESTERS, 53 PERRY VALE FOREST HILL LONDON SE23 2NE

We¹ll be there every week, so hope to see and hear you soon,

Trevor

Weekly Jam in South London

Postby Trevor Hyett » Sun Nov 16, 2008 2:52 pm

Dear all...it’s that time of the week again, when, on a wet Sunday, I begin to look forward to the joys of the forthcoming week, particularly

THE WEEKLY SOUTH LONDON JAM AT

THE FORESTERS, 53 PERRY VALE...

...that’s in FOREST HILL LONDON SE23 2NE

All are most welcome to come and play and sing – we’re particularly short of fiddle and mandolin players, harmony singers and chorus belters!

Hope to see you soon. If not tomorrow, then later as the festive seasonal spirit takes over.

In the meantime,

Thanks for reading this far,

Trevor & The Sessionaires

South London Weekly Jam

Postby Trevor Hyett » Sun Nov 23, 2008 12:47 pm

It’s that time of the week again when we proudly declare that the weekend is (nearly) over, long live the weekend!

Either way, in south London at least, the week starts here: THE FORESTERS, 53 PERRY VALE, LONDON SE 23 2NE @ 8.30.

For those of you contemplating a sojourn into Forest Hill, may I encourage you by saying that the sessions have gone well, with a good range of abilities and a stimulatingly wide repertoire. We have a regular bass player, guitars, banjo, dobro and mandolin, plus some fine singing. Harmony singers would be particularly welcome, and fiddle players too...but all are welcome who simply fancy a blow in a safe, supportive, enjoyable, collegiate environment. Many of us are graduates/survivors of Sore Fingers. (Is that meant to attract people, or put them off? Ed.)

If you have been, thanks for reading this far...

Hope to see you soon,

Trevor

Weekly Jam in South London

Postby Trevor Hyett » Sun Nov 30, 2008 4:31 pm

Hi again – if you need to chase away the Monday Blues, perhaps this session in Forest Hill might suit.

As a session, we are still in our infancy, but we’ve made some good music – and dropped a few howlers – and a nice bunch of people turn up of varying ages, sizes, genders and confidence. If you fancy a 1 minute walk from Forest Hill Station, or a 30 second drive off the South Circular, then you can find us from 8.30 onwards.

The details:

THE FORESTERS,
53 PERRY VALE
LONDON
SE23 2NE

So far, we’ve had guitars, banjos, mandolins, dobros and a double bass; plus singers and the occasional harmony...we’d love to see you if you fancy it.

By the way are there no fiddlers in south London? If you are, it would great to hear you add to the mix.

Hope to see you,

Trevor & The Sessionaires

South London's Weekly Session

Postby Trevor Hyett » Sun Dec 07, 2008 4:11 pm

O, come all ye faithful…acoustic musicians, that is!

The more, the merrier…and may nothing you dismay – at least, not with our vocal and instrumental enthusiasm and brio!

The fast expanding south London jam would love to swell yet further with instrumentalists of all levels – there’s a place round the table for everybody, no discrimination, elitism or pain in the donkey stuff here, I can vouch.

We like to think of the session as all-embracing of people and styles and of all levels of competence and confidence – and hope maybe some of you would like to join us.

As always, the session happens at

THE FORESTERS, 53 PERRY VALE, LONDON SE23 2NE

We start at 8.30.

Hope to see you soon;

Warmest wishes from

Trevor & The Sessionaires

Ding dong merrily on...Hi!

We shall be meeting every Monday until next year. That is to say the next 3 Mondays.

We’ve been growing in numbers and in strength as more folk join in and bring the crisp and energetic sounds of banjos, mandolins, dobros (I know, resophonic guitars!) plus 6 and 12 string guitars to the warm and welcoming bosom of Forest Hill. The singing can be pretty ace, too.

If you fancy singing something other than carols or Alexandra Burke’s inevitable Xmas No. 1, then know you’ll be very welcome at

THE FORESTERS, 53 PERRY VALE, FOREST HILL, LONODN SE23 2NE

We start at 8.30 and go on usually until 10.45. And as I say, we plan on being there throughout December. In addition to tomorrow, we’ll be there on the 22nd and 29th.

Hope to see you

Warmest seasonals

Hello again, and happy seasonals to all of you.

I hope that you’re not experiencing a parody of Dr Seuss and suffering from “The Crunch That Stole Christmas”...

We’re trying to survive and thrive with live music down in Forest Hill and, as always on a Monday, we’ll be gathering on the 22nd at

THE FORESTERS, 53 PERRY VALE LONDON SE23 2NE.

We’ll be there at 8.30 and look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it for one last blast before excess sets in...

Happy picking and singing.

Seasonal peace and love,

Trevor & The Sessionaires

On-going south London Jam

Postby Trevor Hyett » Sun Dec 28, 2008 5:30 pm

Dear all – I truly hope you had a fab festive and cool Yule...and while we’re at it, all the best to all for a great 2009...I look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it to our regular weekly session at

The Foresters, 53 Perry Vale, Forest Hill London SE23 2NE.

Being a new session, we’ve had a great time getting established and I look forward to us consolidating and making lots more good music, singing and dance – yes, we had Christine Bell, clogging last week. We even attract applause from the good folk in the bar who seem to be dangerously close to enjoying what we do.

When we started the session, I thought I would see how it went up until Xmas...well, it's been good, lots of musicians - of a wide range of experience and confidence - turning up and playing and singing with enthusiasm. So we'll carry on into the foreseeable future.

Hope you can join us some time.

Warmest,

Trevor & The Sessionnaires

Happy New Year and despite the awful headlines and news photographs from the middle east, I hope there are reasons to be cheerful – thank you to the late great Ian Dury – not least the imminent arrival in the White House of President Obama who, for me at least, symbolises so much hope.

Away from the world and Washington and back in Balham, I’ve changed my strings and practised my scales for the 1st session of the year in Forest Hill...but be warned, the pub’s name has been changed...it is no longer The Foresters, but:

All Inn One, 53 Perry Vale, SE23 2NE

We’ve had a great start and we look forward to welcoming any and all musicians and singers, of any level of competence and confidence, I hope you’ll find there’s a comfortable place for you to join in as you wish. Typically we have banjos, guitars, a fiddle, a double bass, resophonic guitars, mandolins, a fair smattering of singers and some dancing – including solos – from clogger Christine Bell!

It is acoustic, authentic, accessible...and fun.

Hope to see you soon, and, once again, Happy New Year

Yours in hope,

Trevor & The Sessionaires
