Stelling Whitestar for sale

Postby trickypic » Sun Mar 04, 2012 10:55 pm

Although it pains me I am putting my Stelling whitestar up for sale. It is an unstained Maple model with a beautifull tone. Anyone interested then get in touch for further info.

It is 1980's Whitestar five string, serial number 1663. It has the block rim which I have always favoured. In my opinion the tone of these banjos was better than the later 3 ply rims. The banjo is an unstained model in good condition, and all original parts. I have changed the bridge to a snuffy smith but I am sure that somewheree I also have the original stelling one. It also has 2 Keith pegs. I am looking for £1600 +p/p

So tempting!

Those pre Tony Pass Stellings are just great IMHO and the Whitestar is a beautifully understated banjo visually.

Does your Whitestar have the ebanol fingerboard?

Ebonol

Stelling used it for a bit in the 80s. Should be much more hard wearing than ebony. Not sure whether any other manufacturers used it.

It is ebony. Should have known as I have played it for the last 27 years and been a professional luthier for the last 22. I came across Ebanol while I was training in the late 80's (it was called something different this side of the pond). Never really liked the stuff. Work well for a synthetic material but was vey hard on the tools.

Guess we are destined to be together for a bit longer. Does anyone want to make me a sensible offer?

Sounds like a great buy to me, If I had not just aquired my own Stelling, I would snap this up in a flash.
