Sore Fingers Summer Schools have announced the latest news for this year’s October Weekend and the 2020 Easter Week.
The October weekend event takes place on the 25th – 27th, and will feature the usual instrument and singing classes, taught by some of Europe’s best bluegrass and old-time musicians including Rex Preston (mandolin), Ben Somers (bass) and Roger Jackson (singing). The weekend will also host a brand new improvisation class led by Andy Mackenzie. This course is already proving popular so if you’re interested, it is recommended you secure your place as soon as possible.
The 2020 Easter event will be held 13th – 17th April and will be the 25th Sore Fingers Week. As such, the organisers are putting together a tutor line-up befitting of such a celebration. Details are still being confirmed, but classes announced so far include Mike Compton (mandolin), Ned Luberecki (bluegrass banjo), Becky Buller (bluegrass fiddle) and Mike Witcher (dobro). 2020 will also see the return of a songwriting class (taught by Wil Maring), and a week-long improvisation course may be added if the October version is a success.
SFSS are also appealing for donations to a new sponsorship initiative. This will provide funding for talented young musicians who otherwise would not be able to attend.
